How We Started

1980: Danville Rescue Mission Established

The Danville Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization founded in 1980, provided vital support to homeless and vulnerable men in Danville, Illinois, and the surrounding area. Inspired by successful programs from larger city shelters:
● Daily meals were offered to the men at the mission and to the wider community.
● A low-cost thrift store with an extensive collection of affordable goods was opened.
● Carefully designed programs provided the necessary support for a successful transition and reintegration into society.

At the core, is a “Christ-centered” approach: treating others with respect, acceptance and love. Trust building creates a safe space to foster healthy relationships advancing healing. Through the New Life Discipleship Program, regular chapel services, and a pay it forward mentality, the result is a profound life changing transformation built on Biblical principles.

1990s – 2000s: Focus on Growth and Community

The ministry commits to deepening connections with the community, business leaders and city officials.
● Generous grant awards improved physical facilities.
● Resident programs supplemented to better serve those seeking help.
● Thrift store expanded and relocated it to its own dedicated building across the street from the men’s shelter.
